Mass media has had tremendous impacts on me throughout my entire life. TV has been my best friend ever since I was a baby, and the internet is indispensable element of my life now -just can't live without it!-. Yet the medium that influenced me the most is newspaper. I wasn't interested in newspaper at all until I had done the summer assignment for my fifth-grade social study class. I was supposed to scrap one interesting article each day and write my opinion/reflection on the article. For the whole summer, I read the newspaper everyday. Even after the summer, I've read newspaper every single day.
Newspaper, helped me to improve my reading ability, and to think critically. Not only that I've been able to keep up with all the current issues, but also I could relate myself to the world through the newspaper. Its impacts on me are so broad and significant that I can't describe them in a few words. My interest in newspaper continued even when I came to TCIS; I have worked as a staff writer and a cartoonist for school newspaper (Golden Dragon) for three years now. From my three years of experience, I've learned to be a responsible journalist. As I learned more and more about newspaper as a mass medium, I got more and more fascinated by its influence, responsibility, and significance. That's why I now pursue a career that will allow me to continue to work in newspaper industry.
